September 11, 2015 in Church News
Until 2001, September 11th was just another day on the calendar. Maybe it was the day for a doctor’s appointment or a soccer practice. But it came and went and no one paid attention. Now when I type the date “September 11th” like I did at the top of this email, I can’t help but stop and think what that day means. It is now a day that stands on our calendar as a yearly reminder to never take our life or the freedom that we enjoy in this country for granted. We know how swiftly it could be taken away.
The truth is, no day on the calendar should be “just another day.” Every day we wake up in the morning is a gift of God and should be treated as such. This means that we look to make the most of every minute we are given. It means we focus on the things that are truly important–our relationship with our Lord and the way we reflect our Lord’s love to others. We strive to take every opportunity to grow closer to God and share him with all those we meet. We don’t know how many more moments we will be given. So we make it a priority to show love today, to speak peace through Christ today, to defend the truth of God’s Word, to fend off the lies of the Devil. The only way we are able to live in such a way is by God’s grace and in the strength he provides by his Holy Spirit.
Inspired by the love of Christ, let’s do all we can to make sure that we never let “just another day” go by without living it in gratitude to God and with a desire to give him glory.
